TALENTS Susanne Engbo Andersen, Peer Liening-Ewert, Alistair Wroe, June, Yi-Wei Tien
A collection loosely inspired by the third circle of hell in Dantes Inferno. It tells the story of Dante's journey through a vision of hell ordered into nine circles corresponding to classifications of sin; the third circle represents a world of gluttony, where ice rains upon the isolated sinners, symbolizing the cold, selfish, and empty sensuality of their lives. Combined with contemporary stories and psychological states of mind, the collection works as a collage of associations.
HANNELORE SCHMATZ
The German Climber Hannelore Schmatz was the first woman who died while summiting Mount Everest in 1979. Almost 8000m high in the air, her body remained preserved in the ice. Some pieces work with the contrast of functional wear with elements of decay and distortion. Sculptural silhouette emphasizes frozenness.
SUMMIT FEVER
Summit fever takes away the climber's ability to make a rational decision. Because of exhaustion and the weather, the climbers find themselves in the spot of making illogical choices. Impracticalities of a skirt in combination with mountain cloths represent irrationality. Technical fabrics contrast ruffles.
SCHUHPLATTLER
The Schuhplattler is a German folklore dance, gradually evolved as farmers, hunters, and woodmen practiced it in isolated areas of the alps. It began as a courtship dance, only performed by males, outdoing each other in leaps, slaps, fallings and dancing to seduce their possible partners. Deconstructed traditional costumes are combined with shiny and artificial fabrics.
